About Me My name is Carrie Wareham. I am an artist from the UK and have been living in Dubai since 2001. I gave up my full time job in Dubai in 2007 to become a full time artist allowing me to focus on my passion. I work mainly with Acrylic and Encaustic mediums. With both disciplines, I am inspired by the richness, the colour and opulence in Dubai together with its futuristic feel and growth. This has led me to bring other media into my work such as gold leaf, chains, Swarovski crystal and coins to bring out the sparkle. I love to experiment with different textures and several paintings have been created using rice, mustard seeds, lentils and various other dried products in them. Encaustic art is a modern development of a 2000 -3000 year old art form which featured on the faces of the 'Fayoum Mummies' in Egypt. I use an iron to create my encaustic pictures from waxes specially made for this art, (colour-pigmented beeswax), colour pigment and other materials. I never start a piece with an exact picture in my mind, but work from whatever inspires me at the time which leads to a fantasy world of colour and form. Many of my paintings are in private collections in throughout the Middle East, Africa and Europe and Australia and I work closely with several interior designers to produce signature pieces for their various clients on the Palm and other residential and hotel projects. I have exhibited at the British Embassy - Dubai, Pizza Express, Presotto and Mercato Mall - (starting in More Cafe - Garhood), Reef Mall, Bur Juman Centre, Art Oasis at Wafi City, Dubai Jazz Festival, and other venues. I regularly show my work at the ARTE Craft Soukhs at Times Square Centre on Sheikh Zayed Road. My work can be seen at Covent Garden Market at the walk at Jumeirah Beach Residence on Saturdays (from October - April) and other regular markets in and around Dubai. In addition to working on canvas, I have developed ‘walking art’ – painting on garments, an art form which is becoming increasingly popular.
